Anna 4 Paws Donates to 20 Canine Teams in Cobb County, Georgia

Sep 28, 2023

Atlanta, Georgia –  In late September, 2023 the Anna 4 Paws team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia where twenty Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits were donated to working canine teams from Cobb County.  Anna 4 Paws Medical Director, Dr. Margaret Trumble and Anna 4 Paws Founder, Adrian Thompson spent three days in North Atlanta where they were hosted by Gary Brown, Game Day Employee of the Atlanta Braves Baseball Club.

On the first day in Atlanta, Thompson presented the twenty canine handlers from Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and Cobb County Police Department with their Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits. Dr. Trumble then led those canine handlers and emergency medics from Cobb County through training on pre-hospital care of an injured police canine.  This training was held at Roam Galleria Working Space which neighbors Truist Park, Home of the Atlanta Braves.

Lunch was provided to everyone in attendance through the generosity of New Orleans native and Roswell, Georgia restaurateur, Chef Marc Wegman. Chef Wegman is the chef/owner of Wegman’s Bayou Louisiana Kitchen.  Chef Wegman, a New Orleans native and a graduate of Delgado Community College Culinary Program, spent a decade in Brennan Family Restaurants, namely Commanders Palace, Mr. B’s, and Brennans New Orleans. Chef Marc worked as a Sous Chef for Chefs Paul Prudhomme, Emeril Lagasse, Jamie Shannon.  Thompson remarked “going to Atlanta and having someone I have never met offer to support Anna 4 Paws and the working canine teams through food is “Naturally Nawlins!”

Anna 4 Paws has three equally important parts to their mission: Providing Equipment, Providing Training and Sustainability.  For the sustainability of the Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits, Anna 4 Paws partners with veterinarians local to the receiving agencies.  This means that if anything in the kit expires or gets used, the handler can go to his or her sponsoring veterinarian and have those items replaced at no cost to the agency or the handler.

For this round of kits, Anna 4 Paws partnered with Butler Creek Animal HospitalGreater Atlanta Veterinary Medical GroupBrookstone Animal Hospital and Averill Animal Hospital.

“We are honored to be able to support Anna 4 Paws because we feel that these Canine Police dogs are heroes, and we would like to help be a part of repaying them for their courage!” Dr. Diana Olsen of Greater Atlanta Veterinary Medical Group

Dr. Jeff Shell, Lead DVM, at Butler Creek Animal Hospital related “Every teammate in our hospital agreed that we needed to take the opportunity to work with Anna 4 Paws. Our hearts are in animal healthcare and we jumped at the chance to help this organization. The role of working dogs in public safety is of upmost importance and we appreciate the ability to support this vital duty”.

On Day 2, everyone gathered at The Battery Atlanta, just outside the gates of Truist Park, where they were joined by Cobb County Chief of Police Stuart VanHoozer and Cobb County Sheriff Craig D. Owens Sr.  Chief Vanohoozer spoke about the importance of the canine unit to his agency and the community it serves and also how he believes the training and equipment Anna 4 Paws provided helps elevate his unit to the best prepared around.  Chief VanHoozer also gifted Thompson with a unique challenge coin as a Thank You.

I want to thank Adrian and the Anna 4 Paws team for their generous donation and invaluable training they provided.  Their dedication to enhancing the safety and well being of our canine deputies is commendable and deeply appreciated. ~ Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens

Upon completion of remarks and photos, Dr. Trumble and Thompson were give a tour of Truist Park where they visited each of the clubs within, the press box, the field and also spent some time in the Braves home dugout.  Later that evening, Gary Brown hosted Thompson and Dr. Trumble at the Atlanta Braves vs Chicago Cubs game.  They were visited by several members from within the Braves organization and received many words of appreciation for their work.  In a completely unexpected moment, each were gifted a set of Atlanta Braves World Series Rings.  Thompson said he could not believe the generosity they were shown.

Anna 4 Paws received two very generous donations from Roam: Coworking Space Executive Partner, David Salyers and Garry Holten & family to cover most of the costs of this donation of equipment and training. Thompson said “we are a small group that is doing very big things and we cannot do that without the support of personal and corporate donors.  I was thrilled to learn that two people the caliber of David Salyers and Garry Holten wanted to support us.  It was two very big days for Anna 4 Paws when I received those two calls”.

Roam is proud to support Anna 4 Paws in their noble mission to ensure the safety and well-being of our community’s police canine partners. We believe in the power of collaboration to strengthen our local community and support those who protect and serve ~ David Salyers
