Anna 4 Paws Takes St. Tammany Parish by Storm

Jul 26, 2023

Anna 4 Paws visited St. Tammany Parish last week where Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits were donated to every canine handler at St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Slidell Police Department, Covington Police Department, Mandeville Police Department and Mandeville Fire/EMS.

“This means that 100% of the working canine teams in the police service and fire service in St. Tammany Parish are carrying canine life saving equipment in their units.  Combining that with the canine first aid training the handlers will receive from Dr. Trumble of Avenue Animal Wellness and Emergency, St. Tammany Parish now joins The City of New Orleans and Jefferson Parish as having some of the best protected working canines in the country” said Anna 4 Paws Founding Partner, Adrian Thompson.

Making this donation run across St. Tammany Parish was made extra special as it marks the first time Anna 4 Paws has added a “Fire Dog” to their roster.  Chief of Fire Prevention Jason Kaufmann and his partner, Canine Sadie of Mandeville Fire/Ems received an Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kit with the help of Mandeville Animal Hospital and Dr. Liza Ledet.  Canine Sadie is an accelerant detection canine who works in pretty dangerous, post fire, locations.  “I am extremely excited to have received an Anna 4 Paws first aid kit. Hopefully Sadie and I will never have to use it, but if we do, knowing that I have both the training provided by Anna 4 Paws, as well the equipment, is a huge relief” said Chief Kaufmann.

Anna 4 Paws has partnered with several veterinarian hospitals across St. Tammany Parish to make sure these kits remain ready to go in the case of a canine emergency.  Partnering with us for this round of Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits are Resurge Veterinary Surgical Specialists and Rehabilitation, Northlake Veterinary Hospital, Mandeville Animal Hospital, Monroe Street Animal Hospital, Animal Health Clinic of Covington and Claiborne Hill Veterinary Hospital.  This means that if anything in the canine first aid kit is used or expires, the handler can go to his sponsoring veterinarian and have those items replaced in the bag at no cost to the agency of the handler.

When asked why she decided to sponsor a canine first aid kit for Chief Kaufmann and Canine Sadie, Dr. Ledet of Mandeville Animal Hospital said “When I was contacted by Adrian with Anna 4 Paws to sponsor a kit, I was excited and grateful to have the opportunity to Sadie and Chief Kaufmann by a means that extends outside of our veterinary hospital setting while they are in the field.  I am grateful that there is such a wonderful organization out there providing critical supplies for these dogs and their handlers.  We are honored to help and partner with Anna 4 Paws.”

Speaking about why he and his practice partner, Dr. Dena Lodato, both of Resurge Veterinary Surgical Specialists and Rehabilition, became part of this effort, Practice Manager Mike Richard says ” It’s been one of the highest points of both my personal and professional achievements to be able to support an effort like this, at this level.  It’s a good cause which makes it easy to go all-in.  We’re both just so proud to be part of it all and see it work.  It’s an honor to serve.”

Anna 4 Paws Founding Partner Brittany Sylvia Thompson commented :

“Anna 4 Paws was founded in service. To serve the needs of our canine officers and their handlers, the receiving agencies, and the communities they serve. What makes me most proud of what we’re doing is that the call to serve is infectious to others. The veterinarians that we partner with are eager and proud to be sponsors of Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits and have been heard telling the canine handlers not to hesitate to call them and also offering to take care of any of their needs. Everyone involved is truly serving others.”

St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office received five Anna 4 Paws Canine First Aid Kits.  Enough that every handler will have their own and will not have to wait for one to be brought to the scene of an injury by another handler.

“We welcome Anna 4 Paws as our partner for life saving emergency care kits for our canines. With our local veterinary partners sponsoring these kits for each of our canine handlers, we feel a sense of comfort knowing we have them ready to go, but pray we never need them.  This is a great organization, doing great things.” Sheriff Randy Smith
